Off season Monday night and walked right in. The restaurant was an old horse barn and was interesting to us. One server that kept busy but kept up with all she had to do. We split the German Trio & a bottle of Moscato. For the most part we loved it all, but we both agreed the Sauerbraten was a little dry & tough. Prices were reasonable and we were just too full for dessert.

Came here for the first time and loved it. I had the German Trio (pictured) and my wife had the Chicken Spatzel. We shared a bottle of Chardonel and a bread pudding for dessert. The food was top-notch, with some standouts including the house balsamic vinaigrette on the salads, the fork-tender beef saurebraten, the utterly delightful bread pudding and the bratwurst, but everything was outstanding. I will certainly come back again for that German Trio, as you cant get this authentic German food in Saint Louis where we live. I can't tell you how the rolls were as our server forgot to bring them, but except for that one little issue she was friendly, helpful and attentive enough without being overbearing. The wine isn't terribly expensive and tasted great but I was surprised to see that when you buy a bottle they plunk down two glasses and the bottle and it's on you to pour- not a problem for me at all, but in my years in upscale dining that's not how we presented wine and the informality of it surprised me a bit at a winery. As I said, not a problem for me but I was surprised.

This was an outstanding getaway in a charming converted stable, a really different dining experience that was memorable and delicious. The missing points in my rating are from the missing rolls and the bathroom which was very clean except for a really rancid smell that was clearly coming from the old urinal screen. Other than that, it was fantastic and I'd come again any time I'm nearby, recommend it to friends. And I'll probably occasionally make the hour and fifteen minute drive to indulge in great food in a neat spot.

We were there on Columbus Day at lunch with the establishment being half filled. Service was pleasant but very slow and inattentive. Food was warm and tasted great with my only knock being serving size. Jaeger sauce was particularly good.

We didn't realize we would be going through Herrmann when we went to look at purchasing a trailer. On the way back through, we stopped for dinner. The last time we were in Herrmann, we didn't make it here to eat. I was excited they were open so we could give it a go. I was filled with excitement when I realized the inside was a renovated barn, and we were able to sit in a booth, which used to be a stall. We both ordered the French Onion soup. There is a reason it reads 'famous'. It was so delicious and cheesy. It's probably the best I have had in a while. For dinner, I ordered the grilled chicken spaetzle, which is made in-house, and hubs got the German Trio. Again... delicious! The salad was fresh with a great house made balsamic vinaigrette and 2 warm delightful rolls. I also got a side of the warm german potato salad having bacon flavor with a hint of something tart. With all the food and Norton wine, we did not have room for dessert, unfortunately. Cassidy took very good care of us during our visit.

The food was very good. The service wasn't so good. Young girl staff not very knowledgeable about food service, seemed more interested in huddling together and giggle-boxing about whatever. Brought our potato pancake appetizer, but failed to bring us any plates. Had to get up a couple times to flag one down to bring us more water and to order some wine. We were going to order dessert, but felt it wasn't worth the effort to try to get their attention yet another time. Enjoyed the food, but wanted to get out of there due to the lack of service. Will probably not be going back.

While the ambiance of the restaurant is amazing, it's customer service makes this restaurant a 3 stars.

When I originally arrived to the restaurant I was told that it would be an hour and a half wait (no big deal) but when I arrived at 2:43 for my 2:45 reservation, I was rudely told "you have to wait! It's not 2:45!" This behavior was extremely unprofessional, especially seeing how there was several open tables.

The price of the food was also outrageous. 20 dollars for a Salida and 16 for a burger, but was good.

Honestly bring your own food and eat at the winery.

We ate here on a recommendation from family and were not disappointed. We had the schweineschnitzel and the German trio. Both excellent. The red cabbage was a favorite and the best I've ever had. We also had the caramel toffee custard apple pie and the blackberry wine. Also excellent. Definitely a place to visit again.
