We loved this quaint little family run restaurant with a country feel. It is 12 minutes from Foxwoods and well worth it. The food is excellent and fairly priced. Home cooked meals and warm welcomes are what you'll receive here. There are separate tables if you like privacy or seating at a horseshoe diner table where you're sure to spark up conversation with the local folk. This is what a diner should be. A gathering of friends, and strangers who become friends, over a good hot cooked meal. We will be back!

Nice enough place. Pleasant waitress. It was very cold inside, bring a jacket. For some reason, they choose to be very inflexable. This is not” have it your way”. My wife wanted the veggie omelet, and asked for gluten free toast. We were told that you could only get gluten-free toast if we ordered off the gluten-free meal section. But, there was no veggie omelet in the gluten free section, even though a veggie omelet is gluten-free. So, they have gluten free bread, they would just not give it to us. I insisted that my wife be allowed gluten free bread and was assured that the chef would never allow it. Unable to tolerate such nonsense, I politely asked the waitress to place our order as is, and if it was unacceptable, we would go elsewhere. I was surprised when she came back and informed us that it was in fact,unacceptable and we left as promised. I will say that the waitress and the lady behind the counter were very nice, and I was not charged for the coffee and O.J. I had consumed.
Would I come back? Yes, but only if they change their ways, and adhere to the age-old hospitality industry saying that the customer is always right.

Great food, staff and atmosphere! This is the former Parke's Place Family restaurant so it still has the location and cozy inside. The food was always good but our breakfast on 7.25.24 was the best yet! Farm fresh food here. I had the best (home made) kielbasa and the farm fresh eggs in my omelet were light and fluffy. The home fries were crisped just right! Spent time talking to the new owner Ronnie; she was very friendly and runs the farm providing fresh ingredents for the restaurant. Highly recommend The Salty Heifer Diner!

A friend and I were in the area for poker and looking for somewhere great to eat before playing. We came across The Salty Heifer and were game to give it a try because of the name alone - before reading any reviews. Thankfully, we weren't disappointed. Yesterday afternoon, I had the best burger ever (The Phoenix Rising Burger); so much so that we returned again this morning to repeat that meal. So, for the first time ever in my life, I'm having a burger for breakfast.

If you're looking for great food, energy / vibes and a really cool space to enjoy it all, then The Salty Heifer is the where you want to come.

I don't think I've ever left a public review for a diner/restaurant, but I need to share a few thoughts about this little gem. My love and I had spent the prior day at Mohegan Sun, and decided to spend the afternoon in Mystic before taking the ferry back to Long Island. We had been in the mood for a real breakfast - comfort diner food - after several nice meals at the casino. We literally drove past The Salty Heifer, I asked if she'd noticed the sign, she said she was about to say the same, so we pulled in about 1:20, and saw they were closing at 2. Evidently we had just missed the ribbon cutting ceremony, but the universe made sure we were there in time to eat.

We asked if we still had time to eat, they led us to the tables, and not once was there a hint of being rushed. (Trust me. Not all NYers like to rush. This was a welcome pace.)

We couldn't decide on eggs or pancakes, so we split our orders, (which we often do, and highly recommend). We had to try the Salty Heifer Breakfast - could've stopped there. But couldn't. Also got a veggie omelet. Sara was the ultimate waitress, and offered us fresh fruit cup instead of a second potatoes, since one came with the SH Breakfast. All eggs were perfectly done - the omelet and the eggs over medium. The fruit, ( w/ salmon colored watermelon!), sausages and perfectly thin and crisp bacon were pure comfort. And the pancakes... and coffee... yeah, you get the idea.

Everything was farm-to-table, and some of the freshest ingredients we'd tasted. When she realized we enjoyed the food and its sources, Sara gave us the history of everything on our plates, all without ever interrupting our meal. It all just felt like a home away from home. Yeah I'm gushing a bit, but we're from NY - we have our fair share of diners. But The Salty Heifer is a place we would frequent regularly. So, while we are telling all our friends, and making this a stop on their trips to casinos or Mystic, we need all of you who live close enough, to make sure this place thrives so it's there every time we return.

Oh, I said we were on our way to Mystic I'd always wanted a slice of Mystic Pizza, from the movie. But Sara told us about the ice cream, so we had that in the car and bought blueberry pound cake for the ferry. Needless to say, we were too full from our brunch for any slice - and would do it all again.

The service was lovely. Greeted with info needed to get seated. Waitress (Jeannie) was attentive and friendly.

The special caught my husband's eye; Corned beef hash. It was amazing - real corned beef mixed with potatoes.

Coffee was standard, I like mine stronger, but it was adequate.

Eggs done exactly as ordered. Good choices for toast. Love when rye and sourdough are offered.

The potatoes were under basic, but they know their locals, and we are juat visitors, so we understand why they do what they do the way they do it.

Would I come back, probably not. But is it a good place to try, why not? Perhaps thie lunch is awesome enough to have high stars on Google.

Nice location, good parking and gorgeous tree lined road.

Very nice, family owned diner. Clean. Friendly. Farm fresh food. Large portions. Food is delicious. My friend had the Phoenix Burger and said was the best burger she ever had.

This place is a total gem!!! I had an omelet with their own hot sausage, steak and veges and it was fabulous!! Eggs are their own farm eggs too. Quality omelet I was oohing and aahing over for every bite! Place is small and friendly right on their farm. They also sell meets to go. Tried the pancakes because I couldn’t resist and they were delish so fluffy. Highly recommend this place.
