This is a great place to have a hike in South East Missouri. The trail is located right along the beautiful St. Francis river and takes you to the historic mine and dam (what remains of it). During low water you can cross the river at the damn to access the old shaft entrance. When the water is up there is a (not very well marked) trail you can take to the shaft also. They also have tons of camping sites here in several different areas. Electric sites are available riverside.

Easily one of the best access points on the St. Francis river. This trail has so many uses; you can put kayaks and canoes in, hike the trail to the dam and back or up to Millstream Gardens, climb on several large granite boulders and cliffs, fish in either the fast moving eddys or the calm waters below the low water bridge, pack a picnic out for a relaxing lunch, or go rock hunting for different types of Missouri granite and quartz. Regardless of what you do, don't leave trash anywhere in nature and enjoy this beautiful, unique river.

Very cool hiking trail and area. Lots of beautiful views and places to swim, hike, climb on boulders, etc.

Great trail. It is a little rough in some spots, but mostly due to recent rain. We were not able to do the full loop. Water level at the dam was to high to cross. Not a trail for little kids or pets unless you have a way to carry them over the rough spots.

We went for the swimming holes, it had beautiful scenery and wild life. It's a bit difficult to reach the swimming area we went to, but the seclusion is kind of the point, so know that you're in for a moderately difficult hike to reach the good spots.

Had a great hike here today with a buddy. Started at Tiemann Shut-in trailhead and hiking along the St. Francis River to the Silver Mines trailhead and camping area. Got to see some kayakers braving the rapids and riding the standing waves before and around the dam. Just under 7 miles out and back. Nice little day trip!
