I needed to update this old review as I thought I had years ago...

I eat here as often as I can for their Dailey specials are not only reasonable but tasty!

One of my favorites besides Wednesday and Saturday buffets (the chicken is most excellent) are the nights they serve Meatloaf (Tuesday), chicken fried steak (Monday) and spaghetti (Thursday)!

Not that the remaining nights are bad or poor but these five nights (buffets too) are especially great.

I sit at the counter and enjoy my meals, and sometimes visit with the other patrons. One older gentleman, Tommy Coambs(?), passed away during the recent pandemic. He would sit at the counter almost every night and watch his YouTube videos and I now learn he was an excellent basketball player, among other sports, in his day.

But I digress.

So if you're ever in Virden, Illinois, you ought to plan on having a lunch or dinner special here at Showtimes Lanes!

PS.. TRY their soups, especially the STUFFED PEPPER SOUP.

The fourth picture below is of their cabbage soup which is also most excellent. The other picture is of the cook (first) and order pickup. The third is of their daily special board.

But the Piece de La resistance is their STUFFED PEPPER SOUP (second picture). I love it!!!

My wife and I have been to the restaurant several times. A couple times it was really good. This time we took my sister with us we all had burgers and fries and iced tea. Which really wasn't that good and was actually just warm. Although the one waitress was really trying to keep up. But I had got a cup of soup which was 5$ didn't really check the price the soup was really good so we got 3 cups to go so now for 4 cups of soup we are at 20$ the cups to go were really small served in sauce or dressing foam cups. All in All our meal for burgers and fries was 60$ plus a Tip. Very over priced. We enjoyed our other trips to this restaurant. Because we are in Virden to see my Mom at Sunrise Skilled nursing home. Doubtful we will eat here again.

Been here many times. So far they have provided predictable affordable food. They were a bit understaffed, but I assume that this is a common issue with any mom/pop restaurant. My son lives in Virden so it is nice to have a family friendly restaurant that doesn't break the bank. You do have to watch the menu some items seem to be over priced.
