When you cross the front door at the Putnam Lodge you are transported to another time in Florida. The owners are very friendly and make you feel welcome at every point. I had to cancel the second day of my stay, and the refund was applied to my credit card without an issue. By the way, an important part of the experience is having dinner at the restaurant.

Probably the most charming place to stay on Florida's nature coast. Just a short distance north of Cross City Florida, in unincorporated Shamrock, Florida. Built in 1920's the place has a rich incredible history, AL Capone stayed there during prohibition and kept some liquor stored there, also had some secret passageways that the owner will show you. Speaking of the owners, these folks are so kind, generous and friendly , that when staying there, you feel like your at home. There are so many things to rave about that I don't know where to start. The rooms are dated but that's the charm! Many many areas to sit and relax, by the fireplace in the lobby is a good place to visit with other guest! Complimentary breakfast, coffee, pastries etc. Just simply beautiful decorations! WIFI available, televisions throughout including meeting rooms. We were there during a hurricane so we didn't get a chance to experience all this place has to offer but next time for sure. Putnam Lodge Is the place to stay for the Big Bend area of west coast! Don't miss this, loved It!!

Stayed here after 3 days of no power or water. The rooms are cute, staff is friendly, and it retains it's 1920s charm. We're definitely planning on staying again when there's not a natural disaster

Stayed here on a scalloping trip. The location is great right on the main highway when you come into town. Room was okay. Took forever to cool down and the thermostat was outside of the room. Nice lady that worked there helped us. I finally left the door open so it would cool down faster. Traffic noise is loud in the front of the hotel. Loved the history and nostalgia…quirky things everywhere.

Room: Bed seemed clean and was comfy, but there was a stain on the sheets. Carpet had a few stains. Only one chair, but they were nice enough to bring us another out of the hallway.

Reataurant: had the blackened redfish special with crawfish. Fish was amazing. Veggies and bread were not. Waitresss not knowledgeable about the hotel which was disappointing. We had a lot of questions about it.

Had a free breakfast room that you could access anytime. That was helpful as we left at 5:30am.

Peacocks on property and beautiful outside area, patios with places to sit, and a laundry next door at the campground.

I honestly can't praise the Putnam Lodge enough. We were going to be late arriving to our first night so I called the front desk to let them know, they stayed past hours so myself and the others could check in and get our after hours cards set up. Not only did they do that but they also set up and noted an area for us to park our 27ft boat. The following morning a friend of ours left their car keys in the room but already dropped the room key into the checkout box. We had to button for after hours and I believe it was one of the owners who came down to assist. She was absolutely amazing about it considering it was 5am. I am looking forward to staying here again and to get in early to be able to explore the entire hotel, restaurant, and property. It has a very dated appearance but in the most fantastic and endearing way, old florida vibes.

I ate at the restaurant and did not stay at the lodge.
The food was 90% awful.
My friend had the lamb chops and she said it was just terrible. We sent it back.
Fettuccine Alfredo, pasta was mush and there was no flavor at all. Very bland.
I had the Chilean sea bass. The fish was great. Nice and flaky. The orange glaze made it perfect. However the veggies were mushy and bland as well.
My nephew and his friend got the filet mignon bites. It was good for the kids however, to an adult it was terrible.
My older brother got a steak and he said it was fantastic.

Our waitress was super friendly and provided great service. She also handled the feedback quite well.

All in all .. service was great.. food was terrible.
