4x4 recommended. Do the bog trail and spend some time at the overlook. There are other trails down the west of the Waikolu Valley as well for better views of the falls and run-ins with pigs and deer

Molokai Forest Reserve is a great area to visit on a clear day after some rain so that you can see the waterfalls. The rental car companies will tell you that you are not covered if you go up the rode into the Forest Reserve. The road is a couple miles out of town go past the cemetery and up the hill. It's not too rough or Steep and you do not need four-wheel drive. Don't go past the lookout where the park is and don't go down a hill because if you get a little bit of rain you won't be able to get back up the hill without a four-wheel drive or until the ground dries out.

Omg the best off road adventure ever. We had so much fun in our jeep exploring the island of Moloka'i. Once we reached the lookout point we had to turn around. The ground was muddy and we dditn want to take a chance by getting stuck in it.

Had a blast driving to the end of the road. Be prepared for deep ruts, steep cliffs, and lots of mud but it is an amazing experience. Once up there take a walk on the boardwalk and make it even better, just make sure you have boots. We had no idea what to expect and many of us in my group had nothing more than flip flops which made a tricky walk quite dangerous. Plan ahead and drive a 4-wheel vehicle and you shouldn't have too much trouble, just slow down and enjoy the sights and sounds of the forest.

Highlight of our Molokai trip. You do need a 4x4 but I thought the road was actually fairly good. If a lot of rain has been falling and the road gets really wet it probably is a little harry in spots. If you've driven forest and mountain dirt roads at home then you'll be fine. The hike through the bog is an experience and the Pelekunu overlook at the end puts the Kalalau valley in Kauai to shame.
