We loved this place! Yes, it is not easy to get to- we had a Jeep and it was a fun ride but you will really beat up your car if you don’t have the wheels/clearance. Probably because of this road the place is pretty empty, and there’s lots of shade and beach to enjoy without the crowds. There were some Hawaiian Monk seals there on the beach, too.

Very rough road. Some sedans chanced it and did make it to one of the parking lots. A 4x4 would be better to drive through that terrain. We parked near the entrance of the park and walked there because I didn't want to jack up the car. Was having second thoughts about it when we were on our way back. It's about a good mile walk or so you'll want good walking shoes. We didnt. Don't recommend walking it in very hot weather. We went in the morning so the walking there wasn't too bad and had a nice breeze and we felt fine. It was after we spent a couple hours there and on the way back the heat was giving me a bad headache and making me dizzy. We did have water but we were unprepared for coverage from the sun. The way back was so hot and miserable. Thankfully some kind visitors stopped and gave us a ride back when we were about halfway. (Thank you thank you!!) ?

If I were to go there again I would take the car down and just go very slow and careful of the big holes. Beautiful beach. The bathrooms there were overdue to be cleaned. ? I wouldn't walk it from the entrance again. It would be nice if they just graveled the road to cover the holes if they don't want to pave it. We didn't get to check out the side with the white sandy beach with the palms trees were due to the walk there was enough to tired you out.

Nice view and peaceful beach. The road is a bit beaten up, you need a high vehicle to park near the beach. The first beach is rocky but you can walk to the second beach that is perfect for a quick deep in the water. The bathrooms are not great, so better hold it.

Mahaiula beach is a mixed bag. 3 stars because the road gnarly and 3 out of the 4 restrooms are close. Silver lining to the rough road is that the beach is going to have a fraction of beach goers.

You need a vehicle with high enough clearance! It's very rocky unfinished road through lava fields. If you use a car, expect to be scraping the bottom on the deep dips.

The southern area of the beach is very shallow with large slabs of rocks. You can walk 20-30 feet from the shore before water hits your knees. Soft waves and warm water, good for just wading.

Going a little north of the beach, it's still rocky but deeper water and still calm. You'll see people snorkeling here.

Going north more along this same beach is a portion in a cove, where you get white sandy beach. We didn't have time to check it out(?), but the waves still look equally as calm. If you look on Google maps, you'll see it next to this one. You do have to walk to it, either from the southern beach or a gated road.

There are restrooms at the southern parking lot.

Long gnarly drive should take an SUV, but worth it for the quiet beautiful beach. Lots of spots to sit in the shade and beautiful sand.

One heck of a ride down a lava road to get to this amazing beach. Worth it if you have a four wheel drive to head back there. Adventure riding and bumpy to say the least.

The beach itself is great. Peaceful and calm. For those who want to snorkel here’s a challenge: try to find a calibre gun from some battleship about 160 feet from the shore

Quite lots of sand clear water. Road is a bit rough but worth it.
