I never planned on being a single mother, but sometimes life sets you on an unexpected path. Being a single mom is one of the hardest, most empowering things I’ve ever done. I wish I could return to the moment in time when I enrolled my three young children and myself for LTSD. I wish I could whisper in that new single mom's ear and say, “This is a flagship moment in your new life; this is going to transition you and your children into finding you are stronger than you ever imagined.”

Together we have entered numerous karate competitions, ranked up several belts, and dragged ourselves to class when we would rather stay home on screens; we have found grit, bravery, hope, and a new family…a karate family.

I am also an educator. The students and young black belt instructors are a vision of hope in a world that sometimes feels hopeless; watching them instruct my children makes me know the world will be okay. Karate kicks hopelessness. All the AP and honor classes in the world could not compare to what path this will set your child on.

I used to carry a grief that darkened my soul. You never forget a pain like a fog that lingers in your mind and heart forever. And one day, that fog lifted, and I think that one day was when we started karate.

My son LOVES this place. He loves that all of the instructors push him to try harder and be better not just in karate but in school and at home. He said it’s helped him find ways to calm down when he has big emotions. It was also his go to thing while we were shut down during COVID (…every day, multiple times a day thanks to Zoom).

Both Master Colette (18+ years experience) and master Krantz (40+ year experience) are incredible tang soo do karate teachers! the thing that impressed me about them the most is that when they teach the kids, at the end of class they have a 5 - 10 minute session that always details some area of integrity, where they teach kids valuable life lessons in terms of achieving their goals as well as how to treat other people period true professionals!!

NOTE: if you are serious about martial arts this is NOT really the place to go. This is more of a social activity sort of place. The workouts ARE hard and challenging but a lot of people here are fat and WAY too many people have black belts. This is more of a "lets go to six flags and then take our kids to Litchfield Tang Soo Do" sort of place. Unfortunately this soft trend is becoming the norm

Litchfield Tang Soo Do isn’t just a martial arts school (of course that’s part of it), but there’s so much more. My kids and I have learned life skills and how to push passed what you thought were your limits and excel. The instructors are their because they want to be. Not only do they teach, they continue to train themselves so they can continuously bring new classes to the students. They are family, they are our home away from home. My girls motivated me to take classes my self! We respect each other, we love each other, we train hard and are so proud to be a part of this amazing martial arts school.

If you are looking for a martial arts school that will teach discipline, focus and respect rather than just take your money and give your child a pretty belt this is the place to be. The instructors at this school are not only incredible and highly skilled in their art, they instill a work ethic in their students that drives them and motivates them. Our son has learned confidence and humility, respect and determination, focus and dedication. He learned them because he has them modeled everyday by his instructors. They truly put their heart into this school. From the moment you walk in the door, you are their family and they will do everything in their power to help your child become their very best.
