This place is a family operated restaurant. It's in an older building but it has a warm feeling. Food was outstanding and plentiful. Service was great and friendly. The place stays busy but it was worth going. And they keep everything affordable and nowadays that is great. Small town place with big upside. Will be going back for sure.

Nice little diner for breakfast. Good food. Good service. Support small businesses when you can. Might have to drive a little but fresh is much better than the pre-pkg’d junk that kids put on your plate.

Stopped in Saturday 12/28/24 on our way from Mt. Vernon to Carbondale. So glad we did! Waitress immediately gave us menus and took our drink order as soon as we picked out a place to sit. Selection was good. Food came out quickly. And boy was it delicious. I had pancakes and biscuits and gravy (don't judge). Wife had a chicken Caesar sandwich. Reasonably priced as well. Great place, no regrets. Give it a try!

Small Town cafe with a very laid back atmosphere, suitable for the entire family. PROS- The menu contained a great deal of variety that says these cooks earn their paychecks almost as well the taste of the entrees. Our waitress was seasoned which helped ensured we ordered correctly as she prompted us thru choices of various sides. We weren't aware toast came with the hobo and gypsy, but even if we hadn't got it I must say one of the best things about this diner is the very reasonable prices. It's very rare for any eatery to maintain a fair price in an industry as competitive as the restaurant business. The price added to the comfort of the atmosphere as I imagined the owners where people u could trust. The interior is bit outdated, but I was more impressed that manners & hospitality did not seem to be.
CONS- outdated but not dirty decor, the hobo was a smidge bland, I would accept the offers of hot sauce our wait staff suggested. And finally, although it appeared to be cleaning solution staff had sprayed to sanitize/clean the toilet paper/towel dispensers in restroom, whatever it was had dried be4 wiped and make the restroom surfaces area dirty. As many people look at the bathroom and judge the kitchen cleanliness based on this, I recommend Wiping away the possibility for dramatic complaints..

I live 3 blocks away from this place.
I work practically next door.
Of the 12-15 times I've called or walked in, to place an order, I've only been served 3 times.

The servers REFUSED to take my orders and have continuously told me to try again a couple hours later.

Excuse me!! I could drive to Cracker Barrel in MARION, order, eat-in, & place an order to go, anytime they are open. And be HOME in a couple of hours.

De Soto has serious business issues too
