Great fries and meaty gyros. Friendly service. I didn't love the fried mushrooms, but I'd definitely go back to try other main dishes as the pictures looked excellent.

This place is amazing. Even my cousin who is from the Chicago area says the itallian beef sandwich is fantastic. I always get the gyro fries. It had been a few years since I was in Kirksville, and I was long overdue. The family who own the place is always so entertaining hang with, while we eat. It really is my favorite gyro place in Missouri.

We ate outside at a picnic table on their patio. The inside was very small and there was no where you could eat in there.
The food was excellent. I loved the gyro fries and my gyro sandwich. My daughter had the chicken gyro sandwich and also enjoyed it. We had the roasted potatoes and my wife and daughter were big fans.
The food was delicious at a reasonable price.

TLDR: Best junk-food in Kirksville. Try the souvlaki.

MENU: Carnival junk-food mixed with Greek fast-food and a few genuine Greek dishes. They used to have seasoned curly fries on the menu, which was half the reason I went, but they don't anymore. Bummer.

FOOD QUALITY: If you get something homemade, it's going to be excellent. If you get something brought in from a restaurant supply, it's going to be garbage. (But that isn't necessarily the fault of the cooks, it just is what it is.) If you ask me, the food is a tad on the pricey side, for what it is - I mean, $15 for what amounts to a medium sandwich, not counting sides or anything else... Worth it, though, for a treat once in a while.

MENU FAVORITES: Can't go wrong with a gyro. Personally, I really like the souvlaki - it's basically tender, roasted pork in a flavorful yogurt sauce. I've never gotten a burger here, but multiple people have told me that's their go-to. If you decide to get a gyro, ask him to make it to-go style, even if you're eating there. The difference is when he adds the sauce. To go style = sauce on the pita, followed by the other ingredients, which is easy to eat, and ensures even sauce distribution. Dine-in style = sauce on top of the ingredients, which is a messy pain in the neck to eat, because tidbits of onions and whatnot will be falling off, taking your precious sauce with them.

MENU FAILS: On one occasion, I got the Greek style roasted potatoes; there's nothing wrong with it in principle, but in that case it seemed like the spuds has been cooked in advance and left in the cooler for about a month. They were kinda gray and rubbery. Overall, the food here is good, but maybe pass on items that aren't commonly ordered and don't have a high turnover.

FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE: As far as I've seen, it's a mom and pop shop run with the help of a son. I don't know any of their names, so for the purpose of this review, I'll call them Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear. One time I decided to dine in, and got dinner and a show. Some hobbledehoy, who was eating outside, came in to ask for more napkins - Papa Bear responded with something like "it's not my fault you don't know how to eat a sandwich," and the little guy left in a huff, like it was the first time in his life being told no. A few minutes later Auntie Bear came in with a gaggle of kids and got into some drama with Mama, then stormed out rattling away on her phone. Baby Bear just laughed and said he would never marry a Greek woman, because they're all crazy. (Send one my way, I need some spice in my life.) Meanwhile, someone had been pulled over on the road outside and was getting a ticket. All of this in the space of half an hour, or so. In Kirksville. Life must be a barrel of monkeys for these folks, if it's like that all day every day.

KITCHEN SERVICE: No complaints.

ATMOSPHERE: Clean and pleasant. The restaurant is small, cramped, and tends to be noisy, what with the vent hood running in the kitchen. In my opinion, the seating is uncomfortable. I usually get my order to go. There's a sign on the bathroom door saying it's out of order, but it isn't. They just don't want anyone going in there and using it. (I wouldn't either, if I had to clean up someone else's gastrointestinal emergency.) About six or seven years ago, Baby Bear mentioned to me that the restaurant was for sale. I don't know whether they changed their mind or not, but they're all still working there. If you're interested, make them an offer.

Gyro is the best I have had anywhere. Wife had a chicken sandwich thing, she liked it. Both of us had fries. We also had the baklava. That was just okay. I come here every time I am in Kirksville.
