Definitely worth a visit. We parked up on a narrow side road near the starting point of the walkway to the cave dale.

Highly recommend

Cave Dale is a stunning valley in the Peak District, near Castleton, Derbyshire. Ideal for hiking, it offers breathtaking views of the Peveril Castle ruins and the surrounding hills. The limestone formations and caves add a unique geological charm. It's a serene escape with historical significance, perfect for nature enthusiasts and history buffs. Highly recommended for a peaceful and picturesque walk.

What a lovely walk! We visited Castleton and fancied a little hike, just beyond the market place you will see signs directing you between two cottages to a narrow pass through a steep sided gorge. Wear sturdy shoes and follow the limestone path up…you’ll feel like you are on the movie set of a film like Robin Hood or Braveheart, the scenery is so dramatic. An easy climb but a little unsteady underfoot. Enjoy the views of the ruined castle and once up top we turned right and walked back down the (very) steep hillside back into town. Loved every minute

Unintended visit on 14/04/2024 to Cave Dale after taking a wrong turn after wanting to visit Perevil Castle (which were able to see from outside in the valley). Once past level with the castle the terrain becomes rough to navigate, you need a good sense of balance and shoes with good grip. This is not suitable for very young children (unless ina carrier), lots of people visiting who had rambling walking prongs. No parking very near, best to park at the village tourist information centre car park where there is a shop, cafe and toilet facilities.

Great place to visit. The drive coming towards this place is just amazing, although the roads are slightly narrow.

We started our hike from Peak Cavern all day car park which served as a great starting point for a round loop.heading towards Cave Dale right round to Mam Tor and which was about 10km in total.

It can get steep in some places and the rock surfaces can be slippery so appropriate footwear is a must.

After reading reviews, thought it would be s good walk. We done route 5, hard but so worth it for the views. Completed it within 4 hours with kiddos. Lovely pubs. Definitely do it again. Crazy weather, sunny and hot one minute, cold and windy another, then Hale and snow but just amazing.
Lovely drive the scenery, just beautiful.
