This is a gem of a restaurant in a shopping center in Kirkwood, a suburb of St Louis. The scallop appetizer was outstanding, and the caesar salad was the best I've had in a long time. For my main dish, I ordered a 6-oz fillet with bernaise sauce and fries. The steak was tender and the fries were delicious. Next time, I would probably have them omit the sauce. For dessert, I had an enjoyable slice of lemon tart. The service was excellent, and the ambience was that of a Paris bistro.

Such a nice little place! My oldest son and I have been here before, but this time was a Friday for lunch. We arrived around 11:30 am before it got a lot more busy. I had their quiche of the day, which was Lorraine and it was excellent--lots of bacon and a sharper cheese (not sure what kind), and I hope to order this exact quiche again. I finally got their legendary onion soup, and the chef is clearly flexing his French skills here. It is perfectly prepared and you just can't go wrong with this menu item. Our server was a middle-age gentleman who certainly got the job done but any general warmth or friendliness was absent. The ambience and decor are somewhat old school but Cafe Provencal is really cute and cozy.

Ahhhh...Cafe Provençale NEVER disappoints!! Our family of five had reservations Saturday in honor of my husband's birthday. They provide the "WOW" factor with every bite. The soup Saturday was creamy mushroom....Heavenly...and the trout, steaks, chicken and beef shoulder were all delicieux! Mousse au chocolat, cheesecake and profiterole, all fabulous! It's expensive, but totally worth the price. I lived in France for years, am ( sad to say, but I 'fess up on this, a terrible food snob), and I assure you, this is
"The real deal". They stay busy because the food is incredible and service outstanding, so make reservations. I've been lunching and dining here for over 10 years, and the fresh ingredients, meals served hot...all are calculated to assure a memorable experience. Louis was our waiter, attentive without hovering, knowledgeable and delightful. I really shouldn't spread the word, as once you try it, you'll be a regular, more competition for this great restaurant, but I can't resist sharing. It's simply marvelous!

This is clearly my favorite French restaurant in St. Louis.

My wine group had dinner at Café P recently, and we had a good time.. In particular, the French Onion Soup stood out as being very good. Our entrees were tasty and the desserts too. None of the dishes were over salted and our server gave us some peace and quiet while we had a nice leisurely meal.

If I have a criticism it would be that I had hoped for a Cassoulet -- but that was not to be found on the menu which I though was odd in January. I would also have liked a cheese plate option for dessert. That said, it was a good experience.

Fabulous lunch, great service and lovely atmosphere. Have not been in several years but it was just as delicious as my other visits. Quiche and mixed greens salad with bread was plenty but couldn’t resist dessert. Everyone else in my party agreed and we will return. Forgot pictures of lunch but presented nicely as well. We are lucky to have French restaurant of this caliber.

We booked for Valentine’s Day - which is probably one of their busiest days.

We were greeted right away by a nice gentleman and told that it’d be just a few for a table. It took like 3 minutes and we were seated. At first it looked too crowded as if they crammed in too many tables for vday. But to be honest the ambiance was perfect and table spacing was just fine.

They had a menu that you could select your options for the Valentine’s Day meal. And there were SO many options! I was surprised.

Gary took great care of us. Was prompt with his service. Each course was properly timed and the portions were so generous! The bread was delicious and the butter was perfect temp to spread. It was the best French onion soup I’ve ever had. And the pork chop was super juicy with a very tastey gravy.

Only thing I did wrong was not save room for dessert which by looking at other tables also was a very generous size!

We have plans to go back JUST to try the dessert. Thanks Gary for being an awesome server!

Great place for a slow evening meal with friends or family. We have been here several times. The food is great. Always had good food here. Ya, it's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Check this place out for your next outing.
