Three stars because the state have "preserved" something.

This grouping of mounds is right along the road and easy to spot next to the small parking area. At first glace you will want to walk down the path in front of the damaged information display. Don't. It will lead you down to the Des Plaines river and the remains of a homeless encampment.

The actual mounds along the road appear to be on private property, but that is not the case. Walk back down the road, pass the few feet of barbed wire fence and cross over the tall grass. (summer visit) The two mounds are mowed and very visible. If you don't see them, you are in the wrong place.

The large mound is butted up against a barn. The smaller mound stands next to a broken tree.

With all the restore America and Illinois funds being thrown around... I think a few bucks could be spared to clean up this native American heritage site.

This is a must see site. The state has parking and information about the mound and Village. Easy to get to. Easy and free parking. Plan on 10-20 minutes at the site unless you decide to use the grill. There is a grill that needs charcoal. Bring charcoal.

The trail is not well kept. It is overgrown with vegetation. Beginning takes you close by the water where it appears someone may be living. Wasn't able to see any mounds from the trail. On the drive out, it appears you can see a couple mounds on someone's property.

The mounds themselves are on private property, so you can't get to them, but you can see them from the parking lot.

So we couldn't find a way to actually make it to the mounds. If there was a path it was overgrown. Hopefully later this summer they'll do some trimming so you can hike down to the mounds. For now all you can do is park and read some of the history.

This is not meant to be a developed site. Development disturbs the natural landscape and wildlife. Its an ancient native american heritage site.

Nothing to really see. A grill but no picnic table. Room for only two or three cars. Small walking trail
