Rock Creek Trail - Bourbonnais, Illinois

This place was a great hidden find. You kinda have yo drive to the middle of nowhere but we were happy we did. There is a beautiful rock lined creek. Clean clear water. No trash anywhere. It was free and nice. Getting to the creek was difficult. There is no marked walking path only places that are worn down where others have traversed. Pick your route carefully. Would be difficult (where we entered) for elderly or children. There are likely other places to get to the water but the route we took was tough. Exciting but tough

Nice wide, well marked trail from the parking lot to the waterfall. Appears to be an old road. Easy to see views of the creek and the waterfalls taking the little offshoot paths.
Definitely hang on to your young ones, large sudden drop offs if you go off the main path. Views are worth doing this trail.

Wide trails with some signage. To actually see the river you will have to hike/climb down very steep cliff areas. Also some of the "look out areas" are on the edge of a very steep drop off. Not recommended for small children. Saw no other people and views were amazing!

There's parking right at the trailhead in Kankakee State Park North Loop. The Rock Creek Trail is a 2 mile loop with a cave and waterfall along the way with lookout points and several unmarked trails down to the river and waterfall with differing degrees of difficulty. We were able to climb down with our dog and wade through the river to the falls. Several people had inner tubes and were playing in the falls. We spent around two hours and hiked over 3 miles total. Beautiful rock faces and trees along the trail. Would recommend bringing swimming shoes for the river. Definitely worth the hour and change to get here.

Nice trail, but there were a ton of cobwebs and spiders! Very quiet and peaceful with some nice views of Rock Creek.

Nice hiking trail along the top with a few entry points to the creek. A few benches too to enjoy the views from above and lots of flat sandstone to sit on below. There is youth group camping as well as a family camp ground in the state park.

Very well maintained trail. Some of the self guided trails could be a little bit better marked. We follow the signs for the trail we were on but still managed to end up on a different trail. Didn't bother us, we had the whole day to enjoy and explore but could be confusing to someone who just wants to go for a short circle hike.

Map at the entrance is also inaccurate about locations of sights to see. And had been "shot up" with a gun of some sort recently.

Beautiful place none the less to enjoy a hike though nature!

This is one of the worst marked trails in all of Illinois! I don’t recommend going on this trail without taking a picture of the trail map!! Even then good luck! The rating is more for the markings of the map more than the scenery.
