11.4.22 Dinner
Looking for late dinner while off the main roads in Georgia and almost everyone closes at 8 but this place was open until 9 so in we went. The cafe is nothing special to look at inside, just a typical country Cafe that seemed clean and well maintained. Our server (Sierra) was friendly and helpful having been going there herself since she was young. She was familiar with the complete menu and gave us lots of suggestions. She obviously loved the place and was excited to share with us. She explained how everything was handmade, and i do mean everything down to the salad dressings and fresh bread with garlic butter that comes with each meal (took some back to the hotel, yummy). The only problem was she made everything sound so good it was hard to choose.
We finally settled on some simple choices with it being so late. Diane had the three chicken tenders that come with no sides and I had a bunless burger with mixed veggies.
First off these were not the tenders that you typically get. These were basically three grilled chicken breast that were absolutely delicious. Perfectly grilled they were tender and juicy with the right amount of grill flavor and seasoning. I don't think plain grilled chicken gets any better.
My burger was much the same. Cooked perfectly with that good grilled taste. The veggies actually worried me at first looking like a mixture of overdone leftovers. Boy was I wrong. The combination of vegetables and seasoning was such a fantastic combination I could have made a meal of a huge bowl of just that. Literally some I'd the best veggies I've had in a long time.
The price tag. Under $17 before tip. Yep, I said that right!
The man that owns the place is the cook and seems to put a lot of care into everything he fixes. I don't usually give 5 stars for food because it has to be perfect but this place gets 5 stars for the food. It may have been simple fare but attention was paid to all the details.

I have never eaten anything bad from here. Noone mentions the steaks they serve. Oh my goodness. Southern star is not known as a steakhouse but it really should be. I haven't found a better steak ever! Seriously, pair it with the bread and homemade garlic butter you get and it's a little taste of heaven. Muah! Anyway, like I said they have excellent food but the steak deserves to be spotlighted.

My husband and I visited Little Okmulgee State Park to see the Christmas lights. We stopped here afterwards for a bite to eat. I was expecting hamburgers and fries, junk food, or maybe a house salad made of lettuce. I was so wrong. This restaurant is a hidden gem. I couldn't believe the amazing menu. I had the backend chicken and my husband had the catfish. The portions are large, so large we had to take half of it home. The staff were funny and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. I will definitely be back. The desserts are worth mentioning also. They are all so good it was hard to choose. I think everything about this place is fantastic.

This is the nicest, non fancy restaurant you'll go to. The workers are awesome, the place is super nice, and I've never had anything bad off the menu. You like sweet tea? It doesn't get sweeter than here. You like fish? Best catfish off the river. Chicken, burgers, steak, just don't even question whether or not it'll be good. Then there's the starter bread and butter.... Don't even get me started. To put it simply, you ain't getting a better experience or better food, especially for the price. If I could give more than 5 stars, they could take them and run.

We arrived at 5:45 pm, Customers in restaurant was light, not real busy and we were a party of four, ordered drink, got that. ordered appetizers and dinners. Got the appetizers and they tasted very good. Still waiting on drinks, got one of the drinks wrong after a twenty minute wait for the drinks. Time now…6:10. By 6:20 I asked about dinner and she said it should be out shortly. Dining room now full, everyone else is getting their meals, and some leaving because they’re done. We still have no meals yet. I ask again at 6:35 and told her we had a place to be at 7:00. She said it would be out shortly.
6:45, I told her to never mind, we have to go. Manager came out and offered to give us a to go box. We said no because it was going to be 2 hours before we get home and we came for a hot meal.
We were told that the Southern Star was a very nice restaurant, I’m NOT IMPRESSED.
First time there and maybe the last time.
