This morning, a friend and I had breakfast at the new location of Junior and Rosie’s. I should start with saying how we’ve been so excited to try this new location, as we are regular diners at their location on N Indiana Ave.

The place was crowded, as it has been every day since they opened. We were seated at a high-top in the bar section of the restaurant, which was fine with us.

It took about 8 minutes for us to be acknowledged, our drink order taken, and for us to receive our menus. Finally, our food order was taken, and we found out it was Rosie herself that was our waitress!

Fast forward about 40 minutes. My friend and I were getting a little frustrated that our food had not come out yet, especially because by this time, there were far fewer people in the restaurant. Rosie stopped at our table and asked us, “have I taken your order yet?” We were astonished, but politely answered, “yes, about 40 minutes ago.”

Rosie looked at her iPad, and showed us our table was green, meaning nothing had been ordered. She said, “there must have been a glitch. What would you like to order?” So we ordered again, and before leaving our table, Rosie told us “I’ll rush your order. I have some ‘pull’ in the back”. She then left our table.

I should mention that at no time was any kind of apology made to us. “There must have been a glitch” is not an apology.

Another 20 minutes goes by and we still haven’t received our food. Rosie walked by and we stopped her to ask where our food was. She told us she was going to the back to get it. Again, no apology was given for Round 2 taking so long. After another 5 minutes goes by, our food finally arrived.

Our meals were good, and we have no complaints about the food itself.

We finished our meals, and by this time, a line had formed outside. You’d think Rosie would want to turn the table over, but it took 8-10 minutes after we finished eating until our check came. Rosie had stopped several times to talk to a couple that she knew at one of the tables.

When the check finally arrived, we had been at Junior and Rosie’s for over an hour and a half. For breakfast.

I wrote Rosie a note saying that although the food was good, her service was not. She should’ve apologized for our order not going through. Another one would’ve been nice after our replacement order took 25 minutes to come out. And finally, our breakfasts should’ve been comped. That would’ve been the right thing to do, especially if you’re the owner of the business.

I should say that all the other waitstaff looked like they were really hustling. I’ll give Junior and Rosie’s another chance, but when I do, I’ll ask the hostess whose section I’m being seated in. If it’s Rosie’s, I’ll asked to be seated in another section.
